Helping Cambridge Residents (Especially Landlords & Tenants)

HEET has now partnered with NSTAR and Next Step Living to bring no-cost home energy-assessments to Cambridge residents.
We will help any Cambridge resident, but we most crave to work on apartments and condos, because they are some of the most drafty inefficient buildings around --wasting energy and people's money.
If you're a tenant or condo-owner, we can schedule for an assessment that will install devices such as efficient light bulbs and programmable thermostats. This work costs nothing and can lower your electricity and heating bills immediately, while creating an efficiency roadmap for further work.
If you're a landlord, management company or condo association, the no-cost assessment and work will:
Install low-flow water efficiency devices that reduce your water bill in your apartments 10% per year, saving $36 on average per apartment per year. If you have 10 apartments, then over the next 7 years, that water savings will total over $2,500.
Enable you to upgrade your common-area lighting which, because it's on 12 to 24 hours a day, will radically reduce your electricity bill. Mass Save will pay for the vast majority of the cost.
Enable you to get rebated "air-sealing" work in the basement that can reduce or stop your need for an exterminator. (Spray foam was originally invented to stop mice and rats from getting into a home).
Check the heating system for combustion safety.
If you get electricity from NSTAR, National Grid or Western Mass Electric, you already pay for these assessments through a surcharge on your energy bills. You've probably been paying for the service for years. You might as well use it.
